The Elmore County Sheriff is the responsible office for the operation of the 125-bed Elmore County Detention Center and all care and control of each inmate within. Any offenders who are arrested throughout Elmore County on either misdemeanor or felony charges will be taken directly to the Elmore County Detention Center in order to be booked, processed, assessed, and to wait for their trail, for someone to pay their bail, or as they serve a short sentence. Most offenders will be released on bail or to await trial from home, while others may remain for a sentence that is less than one year in length or be transferred to another location.
Any concerns or to determine if someone you know is being detained at the jail the office can be contacted by calling 208-587-9103 and an online inmate listing is maintained and updated frequently. All meals, medical care, prescriptions, mental health counseling and other support, laundry and clothing, will all be provided by the jail during their entire length of incarceration.
To pay the bond for an inmate it must be through a bond agent or in cash, with no change provided, and this can be paid at the jail directly, or through an online program, after which the inmate will be released to you.
The work release program permits approved inmates to leave the campus each day that they have a work shift at the job they had before incarceration, and they must return to the jail each day. There are fees associated with being in the work release program, but it does allow for the retention of income during incarceration, and they will be more likely to have a job after they are released as well.
Mail is both accepted at and sent from the jail through the US Post Office on weekdays, though inmates may not exchange mail, phone calls, or visits with anyone who is currently incarcerated or who has been recently released from incarceration. Letters must be in an envelope that contains only your letter, the letter of a child, and no other items with no stickers or attachments, and a full name and return address must be in place.

At Elmore County Detention Center there is a tablet program in place that provides one device to access visits through video, chirps or messages, phone calls, and entertainment and other features. There are two ways to add money to this account and provide access to the services, either at the lobby kiosk or from anywhere.
Along with remote visits that are scheduled through the online program, inmates are each given three visits for free onsite each week, and these are accessible from the visiting kiosk in the lobby.

Elmore County Detention Center Booking Roster
After being arrested and taken into custody, and after being read their Miranda Rights, an offender will next be transported to the local police or department or the Sheriff’s Department in Elmore County for booking.
Booking is very involved and requires multiple steps in the process, however, keep in mind that most attorneys will advise that an offender remain silent and not offer any additional information about the crime they have been arrested for because anything they do say may be recorded and may very well be used against them in court.
Booking includes having their photo (mugshot) and fingerprints taken, as well as being asked a lot of questions about their personal history and state of mind. If it’s a serious felony, their DNA may also be taken. They will also be checked for warrants in Elmore County and other Idaho and USA jurisdictions.
If the offender was arrested for a DUI offense, and has refused a breathalyzer test, they may also be forced to have blood drawn by a doctor or nurse.
It is also very likely that the offender will undergo a humiliating full body search while in the nude. This includes bending over, spreading their cheeks in the direction of an officer, and coughing. They will also be walked through a metal detector or x-ray machine, like those used at an airport.
The arresting jurisdiction will ask about gang affiliations, tattoos, medical conditions, prescribed medication they are taking, recreational drugs they are on or addicted to, allergies, if they are suicidal, and other relevant information that will help with determining their cell assignment and special needs.
During the arrest and booking process an offender will also have all their personal property confiscated and held for either their release from jail, or with the offender’s approval, released to a friend or family member.
Personal property includes the clothing they are wearing, money, wallets, purses, cell phones, jewelry, body rings, earrings, watches, and even glasses if they are deemed a security risk. If they are allowed to keep their shoes or sneakers, the laces are removed.
At this point the offender will be allowed to make a free phone call to a person of their choice to notify them of their arrest, and/or arrange a bond or bail for their release.
If the offender is being detained and housed while awaiting arraignment, the Elmore County Detention Center will provide a jail garment and slip-on shoes, a blanket, sheets, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a towel.
Often, before they are dressed in the jail outfit and brought to their housing location, they will be forced to take a shower and undergo a disinfectant treatment for body and hair lice, scabies or other pests that may be residing on their person.
Booking can take anywhere from an hour to 24 hours or more. It all depends on the number of people that are awaiting processing, the number of staff on duty at the time, and the behavior of the offender.
If the offender is heavily intoxicated and/or violent, the Booking Officer may decide to stick the offender in a holding cell for several hours until they become more manageable.

Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
