Ada County Juvenile Detention Center Information

The Ada County Juvenile Detention Center has a capacity of 71 and is operated by the Ada County Juvenile Services. There are three ways that a juvenile will find themselves in the facility including being arrested and held while a criminal complaint can be filed, prosecutor may request the youth be detained while they prepare charges to file, or a judge can detain them during the court proceedings. Those who arrive through an arrest by law enforcement will see a judge within the first 24 hours during the week to determine if they will be held during the proceedings or fi they will be released. Upon admittance they will undergo a booking and assessment process that will ensure they know their charges and they are provided with a shower and clothing, then assigned to a housing unit depending upon their gender, age, maturity, and how serious the charges are. Each room is a single occupancy and a few of these rooms will surround a common area they can access when not in lock down. All provided meals are created by a nutritionist and exceed local dietary and nutritional standards. Medical care is available around the clock, and there are several services and programs provided. Education, vocational training, counselling, health classes, personal development, sports, crafts and hobbies, movie night, and more are all held throughout the week to provide enrichment and support for each youth. Mail: Letters are permitted, but no packages will be received. Visitation: Visits occur twice a week, and parents, grandparents, or guardians may attend. Hours are Sunday 2:30pm to 4:30pm, and Wednesday 6:30pm – 7:30pm.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Ada County Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
