Miami-Dade County Boot Camp Information

Within Miami-Dade County, juvenile offenders who are sentenced in an adult court or who are assigned specifically to this program will attend a Boot Camp. It is a specialized program with a strict and “shock” approach to rehabilitation. The facility is considered to be “paramilitary” and focuses on education and academics, vocational training that improves employment possibilities, and rehabilitation. There is a strict routine and schedule in the entire facility and all rules are enforced around the clock. Only those who are between 14 years of age and 24 years of age, with the youth who are under 18 when they arrive having been sentenced as an adult in adult court. These will include violent offenders, serious crimes, or repeat offenders. GED prep is a common course that is engaged with often, as well as help with post-secondary education, financial and money skills, assistance finding a job, chances to volunteer, and additional opportunities to learn new skills. Visits are provided but are a privilege and based upon behavior and choices made during their stay. Mail: Mail is permitted, and inmates will be provided with the correct mailing address along with their inmate number to receive mail. It must be send through the Postal Service and contain a full return address easily visible on the envelope. Contraband will be disposed of or returned to the sender. Phones: Phone calls are also considered to be a privilege and can be removed at any time. Inmates may call only those who have been approved by the facility and other numbers will not connect. Visits: Visits are provided based upon behavior, following all rules, and as a privilege. Visiting hours will be provided by the facility for those who qualify.

How do you send mail to an inmate in the Miami-Dade County Boot Camp?

All letters and postcards must be mailed through the United States Postal Service. Mail delivered through any other carrier will be rejected.

Postcards

The Miami-Dade County Boot Camp allows inmates to receive pre-metered postcards like the type purchased from the post office. They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature.

Envelopes

The Miami-Dade County Boot Camp also allows regular letters to be mailed to inmates as long as they conform to the jail’s guidelines.

Letters cannot contain:

  • Any alterations such as lipstick, stickers, glitter or perfume.
  • Polaroid photos
  • Any gang related drawings or anything that compromises jail security

Each letter or postcard must include the full address and inmate information (Jail # and Cell #):

You must also provide a complete return address including your first and last name, street address, city, state and zip code.

Newspapers

Newspaper subscriptions must be mailed directly from the publisher and must contain an invoice that shows the company letterhead.

Magazines

News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher and contains an invoice that contains the publisher’s letterhead. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books

Inmates are prohibited from having hardcover books, however, they can receive softcover books if they are mailed directly from the publisher and contain an invoice that includes the company letterhead.

  • Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Miami-Dade County Boot Camp standards will be disposed of.
  • Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
