SW Florida Regional Juvenile Detention Center Information

Lee County, Hendry County, Glades County, and Charlotte County are all partners in the operation and support of the SW Floriday Regional Juvenile Detention Center. By centralizing this service, they are able to benefit from combined efforts resulting in a larger, modern, and up to date facility with the latest security and technological equipment. Juveniles are monitored around the clock and will only be held at this location if they are considered to be a danger to themselves or others, are waiting transfer to a commitment facility, or they are waiting for a sentence or serving a sentence. The average stay of the up to 50 youth is 11 days, during which they will have a strict schedule to follow which will develop discipline and responsibility. Each day begins with hygiene and breakfast, followed during the week by school until 3pm, and then programming, recreation, and enrichment experiences. Both indoor and outdoor recreation is provided, and all medical and mental health care will be provided. Many of the youth will engage in counseling programs for anger management, parenting, substance abuse, making health choices, and other skills that will assist in a successful life. All mail will be opened with the youth and checked for contraband, it will be returned or censored as needed. There are approved days and times for each housing unit to access the phones. To support this the facility offers two visiting days, 7pm-8pm on Wednesdays and 1:30pm-2:30pm on Sundays to accommodate as many families as possible.
