Serving the counties of Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington, the Bay Regional Juvenile Detention Center houses up to 30 juvenile offenders at one time. It accepts both male and female youth and will hold them until their court date, during a trial, and if they are assigned to detention as part of their sentence. Over their stay there is a strict routine that is followed each day, beginning with hygiene, then school, physical activities, educational activities, meals, and any court appearances. Daily classes are provided during the week by the local public school board so that during the average stay of 16 days they do not fall behind in their classwork. Mental health support is important to the successful rehabilitation of any offender, and is provided alongside medical care, dental care, and counseling. This will occur only on approved days and times, when scheduled by the facility, and all calls are outgoing calls from the facility. Last names starting with A through J will visit on Saturdays from 2pm until 3pm and K through Z will have visits on Sundays from 1pm to 2pm.
