Grand Mesa Youth Center Information

With 42 beds to house both male and female juvenile offenders, this facility services the Western Region of Colorado and includes 18 different counties. It provides programs for all of the youth who are either detained and serving a sentence, waiting for their trial, or who have been committed. It offers full clinical services including mental health support, medical treatments, dental care, recreation activities, programs for healthy living, and transition services to assist in their safe and easy transition back to the community after incarceration. Cognitive behavior programs are used to encourage the development of critical thinking, crisis management, anger management, empathy, independent living and other necessary life skills. The school district supplies teachers to provide classes and assessments to the youth who are residents and ensure they continue their education during their detention. This location houses youth who are between the ages of 12 and 20 for the duration of their commitment or detention, including long term sentences. Mail: Mail is permitted and encouraged, but all mail will be checked for contraband, inappropriate language, and other requirements. This allows them to contact their immediate family and any other contacts they have had previously approved. Visitation: Visitation is provided each day of the week and families are encouraged to visit often. During the weekdays of Monday to Friday visits occur between 6:30 pm and 8pm, while Saturday and Sunday they are available 8am until 8pm.
