The center focuses on providing a safe and secure3 environment for any youth who are being charged with anything from a municipal infraction to a felony. Alternatives to incarceration include community service, weekend sentences, and school or work release sentences. Once these options have been exhausted, or if the youth present a danger to themselves or others, they will be assigned to the juvenile center for confinement. During incarceration at the location there will be regular classes offered on weekdays to ensure that students remain up to date with their core subjects as well as physical education and recreational times. College courses are available for those who have finished high school to continue their education. Therapy and mental health counselling as well as addictions treatments are all offered to those who are residing here, and they will also be provided with all medical and dental care. Mail: To send mail to a resident the letter must follow all regulations surrounding mail including not having contraband, being fully addressed to the youth at the facility, and containing a full return address. All mail must be processed and delivered by the US Postal Service. Phones: To retain contact with families and to keep parents and students up to date there are phones provided to call their parents and any other phone number they have had approved. Phones are available only during approved hours. Visitation: To schedule a visit with any resident the facility must be contacted directly, and they will schedule a visitation time during the approved visiting hours.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Boulder County Secure Juvenile Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
