About the Arapahoe County Detention Facility

The Arapahoe County Detention Facility provides all necessary services and tasks for the inmates and detainees throughout the Arapahoe County.

It is under the responsibility of the Sheriff’s Office, and they provide all care, transportation, meals, clothing, and other needs, along with medical care and mental health services.

Staff may be contacted to inquire about the presence, health, and status of an inmate at 720-874-3500.

A medical unit is onsite and provides ongoing care as well as responding to illness and emergency or injury, hands out prescription medications, and offers support for preventative care.

Arapahoe County Detention Facility has been open since 1987 and was expanded over the years to reach a capacity of around 1400, depending upon the configuration of the housing units at any one time.

Classification of inmates to determine their housing may result in some units being fuller than others, some needing to be single occupancy for higher security inmates or allowing for double occupancy at other times, and those who are involved in the same case will not be housed together. These variations can affect the top capacity at any time.

During incarceration inmates are encouraged to do things that will help with self-improvement, gain life skills, develop social skills, and to prepare for their release. This includes AA and other substance abuse supports, domestic violence education, GED, drug treatment, behavioral services, job skills, religious services, and community resources that provide help with employment, housing, and legal needs.

Along with recreational areas, each of the common areas within housing units has phones that are available during free hours for inmates to call their friends and family, who can create an account to receive and fund calls.

Mail is also permitted as delivered by the postal service to the inmate at the facility:

...and it will be checked for contraband, adult content, discussion of illegal activities, or images that are not appropriate for the jail.

Visits are also encouraged and may be scheduled online to occur Wednesday night from 6:30pm-9pm or weekends 9am-12:30pm or 6:30pm-9pm.
