In Adams County any youth who find themselves in the Prairie Vista Youth Services Center. Only those who are being detained for less than 45 days will remain here, while others with longer sentences will be transferred to other locations. Youth who are 10 years old or older, but no older than 17, are housed at this location. The local schoolboard oversees classes at the facility each weekday, so that no youth will fall behind in their education during their detention, and all core classes are maintained throughout their detention. School hours run 8:15am to 2:25pm Monday to Friday year round. Life skills, cognitive based activities, and mental health services are all offered to all youth who are in residence at the center. Approaching each individual as a whole and treating all of the needs that are present, they will leave the facility prepared to integrate into society, make good decisions, and will have improved life and social skills. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Adams County Youth Services Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Adams County Youth Services Center standards will be disposed of.
