The youth offenders who are arrested or who are sentenced to a term of detention in the Tuolumne County Juvenile Detention will find themselves at the Mother Lode Juvenile Facility. Within the facility there is a focus on rehabilitation in a safe and secure environment that allows each individual to receive the care and programs they need to have a positive and successful life. Social and life skills are developed through interactions and programs that create teamwork. All of the regular classwork is provided by the schoolboard so that each student remains up to date with their public school classes and can reintegrate easier after their release. A physical education program is included with the curriculum, religious programming is available, vocational skills are taught as well as drug and substance education, sexual education and parenting, as well as a work program, fine arts, languages, credit recovery, and much more. Full health services and healthy meals are all provided for each student who is in the program. While the location has space for 30 beds, staffing and other restrictions allow only 16 students to be present at any one time. Therapy, group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other mental health treatments are provided to ensure youth leave the facility as healthy and well-rounded as possible. A commissary is available to purchase reading material, snacks, necessary items, and things to make life more comfortable.
