Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility Information

In Tulare County the Juvenile Justice System falls under the responsibility of the Probation Department. They have partnered with the Friends of Tulare County to offer additional social activities for all youth who are within the justice system to assist in improved social awareness and positive social interactions. Along with this program, the probation department offers non custody prevention programs to reduce the number of youth who require detention, the investigations unit to prepare for court, family preservation, placement, delinquency prevention and readiness for employment. Once it has been determined that detention is required, youth are assigned to a housing location in the Tulare County Juvenile Detention where they will receive healthy meals, ongoing education, recreation time, and programs in learning responsibility, positive social interactions, and other programs to assist them in creating a successful future. Mail: Students are permitted and provided with time to write and read letters to and from their family and some friends. All mail will be checked for contraband and must be sent through the US Postal System in order to be correctly delivered. A full return address is necessary. Phones: It is important that youth remain in contact with their families, so phones are provided during free time or recreational periods, and they are permitted to call all approved phone numbers. Visitation: Visits are key to the success of youth within the facility and encourages engagement in the programs they are in. For this reason visiting hours are provided every week, based upon housing assignment, and visits can be arranged by contacting the facility.
