The Juvenile Hall and the Probation Camp both serve different purposes and house youth who are at different places in their journey through the juvenile justice system. The Sonoma County Juvenile Hall is located within Santa Rosa and opened operations in 2005. There are a variety of housing types and spaces, allowing for youth of all risk levels and security needs to be housed at the facility in a safe and secure manner. With direct supervision the officers throughout the facility are in the units with the youth directly, and each pod has programs that are best suited to the residents in that space, allowing for each individual to get the treatments and services that they require. Behavior management is used to encourage responsibility and growth, schooling is provided by the local school board, medical care, mental health care, couseling, and other services are provided that offer young offenders an opportunity to learn different responses, make better choices, and to take responsibility for their decisions. Drug and alcohol treatment are provided as needed, art classes, book clubs, and fitness programs run regularly, and youth are encouraged to explore their interests. Mail: Mail is delivered through the US Postal Service and is not permitted to be dropped off in any other way. There is no limit to the amount of mail they may receive, but all mail is checked for contraband. Phones: There are phones available within the housing units that allow youth to call their parents or guardians, but incoming phone calls ae not permitted and only approved phone numbers can be contacted. Visitation: Visits are a key part of the rehabilitation of any juvenile offender, and for this reason visiting hours are provided regularly. Parents and guardians are permitted visits and can contact the facility to schedule a time during visiting hours for that housing unit.
