About the Napa County Jail

The Napa County Jail, located in the Hall of Justice near Third and Coombs streets in downtown Napa, and has a rated capacity of 264 beds. When it was first built in 1976, it had 60 beds and cost only $4 million. It 1989 it was remodeled and expanding to its current capacity, but now the problem is that it is no longer a viable building for its intented use. The actual physical address of the 81,624 square foot facility is 1125 Third Street, Napa, CA 94559. You can reach the jail to get inmate and other recorded information by calling 707-253-4401.

Due to California's 2011 “realignment” program which shifted some inmates with longer sentences from state prisons to local jails, it created a problem for jails like Napa's that weren't designed to keep more dangerous, highly classified inmates separate from less dangerous inmates. It also didn't take into account the explosive growth in gangs in this area. And so just locking offenders up in cells all day to keep the peace was not going to work.

Therefore Napa County made the decision to build a new 332-bed, $133 million jail along Highway 221 near Napa Valley College. Construction has already begun and expectations are that inmates will be ready to move in in early 2025.  The new Napa County Jail is designed to include eight 32-Bed Housing pods, two 24-Bed Dormitory Housing units and Medical and Mental Health Services spaces (28-Beds and 2 Isolation rooms) for a total of 332 total Beds. In addition, the facility will include all of the necessary functional spaces to operate a fully functional Jail facility.

The county's goal is to build a jail that doesn't look like a jail, both outside and inside. They claim it will be less institutional and more normative environment with lots of daylight, attention to acoustics and approachable, welcoming staff stations in the dorms. They are even going to stop calling offenders 'inmates' and start calling them 'clients'.

Napa County also has a secondary facility that is geared towards inmates preparing to be released soon.  It is called the Re-entry Facility and is located at 2200 Napa Vallejo Highway, Napa, CA 94558 near where the new jail is being built.  It is a 21,000 square foot, 72-bed minimum security facility that was built for $13 million.

Napa County maintains an online Inmate Search and Jail Roster, and while it does not provide the public with mugshots, you can look up criminal charges, bond amounts, specific inmate information, booking and release reports. You can also look up Napa County Arrest Warrants.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however you will need the inmate's ID# when you mail them, so be sure to get that when you call 707-253-4401. Friends and family of inmates in the Napa County Jail can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. Friends and family can also communicate using an online text/email system, send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.

All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below.  If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 707-253-4401.

Napa County Jail uses Securus Video Connect for Remote Inmate Video Visitation.

Video Visitation allows 'approved' friends, family members, attorneys and clergy of an inmate to connect with them using their computer, Securus Video Visitation app, or ‘on-site’ kiosk.

Steps:
Register and/or log in.
Select the facility of your inmate.
Review the days, available hours and the cost of remote and on-site visits.
Schedule your visit.

What is the Cost of a Remote Video Visit?
Costs vary and are subject to change, but generally visits range from $5.00 to $15.00 for a 15 to 30 minute online or on-site video visit.

How do you know if your Inmate will be available during the time you schedule?
The Securus system knows the times that Napa County Jail inmates are available for remote video visits.
It will not allow you to schedule a visit with your inmate if they are not available or the video visitation kiosk(s) in the jail are booked already.
Once you schedule a visit with your inmate they will be notified of the date and time of the visit.

Important Tips:
Your entire visit is being monitored and recorded. Do not say or do anything that you would not want being replayed in court.
You should schedule your visit, in advance, at a time that works best for you.
For best sound quality, use earbuds or headsets.
