Mono County Juvenile Hall Information

In Mono County the focus in Juvenile Division is to prevent youth from offending and to rehabilitate those who have. This approach is intended to limit the youth who are arrested and charged by offering alternatives and early intervention. While the juvenile courts usually have jurisdiction only up until the age of 18 they may determine that they will extend that in some cases up to the age of 21. This is often used in cases where the offenses that are charged occurred before the youth turned 18, or they have other reasons to believe that a youth sentence would better serve than an adult one. Incentives and Sanctions is a program that is offered before incarceration, as a tool to prevent behaviors through offering incentives for positive choices and sanctions when needed. While Mono County does have a Juvenile Division, they do not currently have a detention center or a juvenile hall and all those sentenced to detention are transferred to the El Dorado County Juvenile Treatment Center. Location: El Dorado County Juvenile Treatment Center, 1041 Al Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 Phones: Youth are permitted to phone their family when they are housed in this facility, based upon the hours and phone numbers that have been approved by the facility. Visitation: Visits with parents occur one day each week and must be arranged in advance during the correct hours with the facility.
