The Iris Garrett Juvenile Justice Correctional Complex (also referred to as the IGJJCC) offers a safe and secure location for housing young offenders who are assigned to the facility by the Merced County Probation Department. Those youth who have committed a violation of the law, or who have been alleged to have done so, or those who require temporary detainment for the safety of themselves, others, or the community. Upon arrest, many youths will be processed and then released, while others will be required to remain detained until their court hearing, and they will be transported and housed at this facility until they are able to be safely released. During their stay all necessities are provided for including nutritional meals three times a day, clothing and bedding, laundry services, medical and dental care, and mental health support. School classes are held each weekday and are mandatory to attend, all students must complete their schoolwork at the correct grade level. Classes run year round and are provided by the Merced County Office of Education. Phones: Phones are available and accessible during recreational and free time, and they may make free phone calls to parents, guardians, or those who are acting as parents. An account must be set up at GTL to receive phone calls. Tablets: Residents may communicate with friends and family through the use of tablets that are offered through Getting Out. This assists in maintaining strong relationships and a sense of community. Visitation: Parents, guardians, stepparents, grandparents, the child or spouse of the youth, and other approved visitors may visit each week. Visiting hours occur on weekends with Unit A visiting Saturday 8am to 10am, B on Saturday 10:30am – 12:30pm, C on Sunday 8am – 10am, and D on Sunday 10:30am – 12:30pm.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Merced County Juvenile Hall allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Merced County Juvenile Hall standards will be disposed of.
