Marin County Juvenile Hall Information

Providing care around the clock for all youth that are detained for welfare reasons, due to criminal charges, or if they are determined to be a threat to themselves or others, the Marin County Juvenile Hall serves the entire county. Within the facility are both classes provided by the Marin County Office of Education as well as medical services provided by the Public Health Department. Food is cooked on site and follows nutritional guidelines for the appropriate ages and needs of the youth, as well as considering all allergies or other concerns that are present. Upon arrival a screening is completed for all medical needs and concerns, to determine mental health status, intervene in any emergent situations or concerns, and to determine the housing assignment based upon age, gender, seriousness of charges, and prior behavior. Parents are permitted to have a visit with their child after their admission, and this visit may be at any time during their first 24 hours in the facility. Before they are released, another assessment may be completed and referrals will be provided for any ongoing services required and programs that will be beneficial in their reintegration. Phones: Youth will have access to phones to make phone calls only to their parents or guardians, and they will be permitted to make calls regularly. Visitation: Visiting hours are provided on Saturdays from 2:30pm to 3:30 pm and again on Wednesdays from 7pm until 8pm. Parents or legal guardians may visit during these hours only; other visitors require special approval. All visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours before the visit is to occur, and only visitors over the age of 21 will be permitted.
