Madera County Juvenile Detention Facility Information

The Madera County Juvenile Detention Facility is the main housing and rehabilitation unit for juveniles in the county who are facing criminal charges or who have been convicted and sentenced to a period of incarceration. A whole life approach is taken, rather than focus on punishment for the behavior there is also an expectation of learning new skills, working towards taking responsibility for their actions, maintaining regular schooling through cooperation with the school board, improving social skills and interactions, and making better choices in the future. All medical and mental health needs are assessed and provided for, with counselling and rehabilitation treatments for any substance use, anger management, and even nutrition and health classes are held. A garden is maintained by the students during their stay, allowing them to access outside, to grow food and other plants, and to take part in the group project along with community services. By addressing the entire life of the youth, they are better able to prepare for a successful life outside of the juvenile justice system, and are less likely to reoffend. Mail: 1655 E.
