Pinal County Youth Justice Center Information

The counties of Apache, Cochise, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, and Santa Cruz Counties all use the Pinal County Youth Justice Center to house their juvenile offenders. There is space for 40-45 youth offenders at any time, and on average students will be there for 3 weeks to one month. Juveniles who are accused of and charged with a criminal act and are waiting for their court date, waiting for a verdict, or waiting for a sentence, will all find themselves within this facility if they have been determined to be unlikely to return for their court date or if they are considered to be a danger to themselves or to someone else. A levels program is used to encourage positive behavior within the facility, and these each come with a different colored shirt to be easily distinguished. Upon intake their assessment will determine which housing pod they are in, and that will affect their schedule and programs each day. Transition is a time that occurs for the first few days up to the first week of their stay and it occurs in the transition cells, before they are sent to their assigned housing so they may learn the rules, become familiar with the facility and the routines of each day, and so they are certain that they are not sick and determine their educational needs. Each housing pod will have between 4 and 8 youth assigned in individual rooms with a common area that has desks for schoolwork, space to eat at meals, television, and showers. Each individual room also has a bed, sink, toilet, and mirror, but are only to be used during sleeping hours and to get ready each morning. Phones: A call room is present that allows for incoming as well as outgoing calls to approved family and other people, as well as conference calls for medical professionals and legal calls as needed. Each youth receives one call each week to their family with additional calls earned with positive behavior. Visitation: Visits are provided and there is both an indoor and outdoor visiting space. Parents and guardians are permitted a visit each week, and visits with siblings can be earned with positive behavior.

PINAL COUNTY JUVENILE DETENTION VISITATION

Your child is allowed one visit per day, up to seven visits per week, with up to three approved visitors at a time.

Approved visitors are limited to parents, grandparents, legal guardians and approved spiritual advisors ONLY.

Visitation occurs weeknights and weekends.
