Mandated changes were made to the jail after a 2018 suicide of an inmate who had been inpropertly monitored. Although the jail had been warned that the inmate had mental health issues, and this warning was caught on tape and later used to reach a financial settlement with the inmate's family, the inmate was placed in a cell with cameras or spot checks by guards. He was left unchecked for at least seven hours, in which time he hung himself. Staff training, changes in intake procedures, camera installations and enhanced safety features are some of the changes that have been made in an attempt to make this facility safer for inmates.
