About the Walker County Jail

Walker County Jail is located at 2001 2nd Avenue, Jasper, Alabama, 35501 and has a capacity of 250 inmates. It is two stories tall and constructed with a red brick facade.

It was built in 1998 and is a medium-security Adult facility. It was originally built as a modular facility, allowing for the addition of more units if needed.

The building covers 57,000 square feet and consists of 9 beds for booking, 24 for trustee unit, 3 beds in the medical unit, 20 for female housing, 35 minimum security beds, 21 maximum security beds, and 128 general housing. There are two main control stations that manage the entirety of the facility, 27 triple cell modules and 14 twin cell modules.

The monthly average of total bookings in Walker County Jail is 297.

Inmates at the jail are allowed two 45-minute onsite video visits each week, and can receive money through a trust account or Money Order sent through the postal service. They can also receive mail from loved ones while incarcerated, however all mail must have the inmates' names and a return address and be subject to approval from the sheriff's department.

The jail has a free mobile app (Google Play and Apple App Store) that allows the public to receive information regarding current inmates in the facility.

The jail houses inmates with mental health issues, those awaiting trial, and those serving a sentence. It provides health services to inmates following Walker County County Health guidelines and also offers reintegration programming to male convicted criminals. The Sheriff has requested the assistance of two outside agencies to create a safer environment for inmates and staff at the jail.

In addition to its purpose as a correctional facility, Walker County Jail has also been repurposed as a cafe and event space. The cafe serves food items for $6 or under.

The Walker County Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
