About the Franklin County Jail

Located on the outskirts of town where it has empty fields surrounding the majority of the building, the sprawling campus that houses the Franklin County Jail and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office operates around the clock every day of the year. The white siding makes it easy to see, and for all visits, money deposits, and other things jail related, the Mike Green Law Enforcement Center entrance is the main entrance for the jail.

All inmates of the Franklin County Jail from Franklin County have been charged with either misdemeanors or felonies, and they will remain at this location as they wait for their trial or court date, or as they serve part of a sentence.

An online roster is provided for all arrested inmates, and staff are able to provide further information when you call 256-332-8425.

Items may only be left for inmate use during their holding period for the first 72 hours and will not be accepted after that, including a clear storage container, whites... which include 6 of each in white only for t-shirts, underwear, socks, bras, one white towel and washcloth, a toothbrush and see through deodorant, shampoo, and body wash. After they have been processed and assigned to the general population they will be required to purchase any further items from the commissary, which is funded by friends and family.

Bond may be paid at the courthouse and must be cash, property, or money order.

Along with the provided mental health and medical care, meals, recreation, and programs for rehabilitation, inmates are also encouraged to remain in contact with their friends and family members who are not currently incarcerated.

... and it must have a return address and name, it must not present a risk to the safety of the facility, no cards, blank paper, envelopes, padded envelopes, scented letters, staples or paperclips or other bindings, or any other additions will be accepted.

Purchases from the commissary can be made either by the inmate with funds that are added by those who are outside of the facility,  or they may purchase items to be delivered to the inmate. Commissary items are ordered on Tuesday and delivered Wednesday.

Phone accounts are also available and can be accessed to add money at the kiosk found in the lobby or online.

Visits are the last mode of contact and the provided visiting hours are Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm for up to 30 minutes twice a week. For additional visits by video there is a fee that can be paid at the lobby kiosk or online.

Collect Calls
Collect calls allow you to accept and pay for calls to your land line (only) phone account. This means that if you accept your call from your inmate, all the charges for that call will then be billed to your land line phone account and will show up and be listed on your next local phone bill. Additional fees, costs, restrictions may apply.

Prepaid calls (Direct Calls)
With Prepaid Calls you can set up your account so that the inmate can only call you and/or you can just deposit money in their account and they can purchase prepaid phone cards through their commissary and call whoever they choose, provided the Franklin County Jail approves of the phone number.

Newspapers

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Franklin County Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
