About the Cherokee County Detention Center

Open since 1996 and renovated in 2004, the 114-bed Cherokee County Detention Center houses both male and female inmates arrested by any law enforcement in Cherokee County on both felony and misdemeanor offenses, and houses them both pretrial and as they serve their sentence. The stark white concrete in the front contrasts the red brick of the remainder of the building, and there are fenced recreation areas on the outside of the building to provide for both indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities. The facility is supervised by 57 staff members.

The Cherokee County Detention Center also works closely with God's Redeeming Grace Jail Ministry to provide spiritual guidance and support for inmates.

To find the location and bond of an offender you can contact the jail directly at 256-927-6435, or check the online inmate locator which provides location, charges, and bail. Once bond has been determined it may be paid at the detention center, at the circuit clerks office, or online.

No outside personal property is permitted, so inmates are able to purchase items they need from the commissary with money that is loaded by their friends and family either at the lobby or online.

To add money to their phone account and receive regular calls, there is another kiosk in the lobby and there is also online access to this account.

Health care is also provided, and there are nurses and a doctor available around the clock, along with mental health care as needed.

The work release program allows non-violent inmates who have qualified to participate to work throughout their incarceration while being tracked for location.

For mail the address is a third party business which opens each piece of mail, checks for contraband, and scans the mail to be digitally delivered.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Cherokee County Detention Center?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Cherokee County Detention Center uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Cherokee County Detention Center first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
