The Autauga Metro Jail has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Autauga County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 3,200 offenders.

Along with those who are arrested by the sheriff’s department they also house those who are from local municipal police including Prattville and Autaugaville. Inmates at Autauga Metro Jail may be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony and will remain in the facility until they are released on bail or until they have finished their sentence.
The jail provides medical care, counseling or mental health care, laundry and meal services. They also care for the other needs of residents, with both recreation and a work release program.
In work release inmates are permitted to leave the campus between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm to maintain their employment with their current employer. They are only permitted to go to specific locations and the employer is responsible for many parts of the program including transportation as they will need to be signed out and back in each day.
Hygiene items may be purchased through the commissary with money from their account, and their friends or family who are not incarcerated can deposit money through the lobby or online.
During the first week of incarceration, they may also have the following clothing items dropped off: 3 white t-shirts, 3 pairs white socks, 3 pairs white underwear, 3 sports bras, wireless. Each item should be labelled in permanent ink.

Visits occur on Sunday and Saturday with times that vary depending on housing assignment, and allows for remote visits to be scheduled as well. General population has one half hour visit during their visitation time.
