About the Autauga Metro Jail

The Autauga Metro Jail in Autauga County is a medium to maximum-security facility with an average population of 160 inmates. Along with those who are arrested by the sheriff’s department they also house those who are from local municipal police including Prattville and Autaugaville. Inmates at Autauga Metro Jail may be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony and will remain in the facility until they are released on bail or until they have finished their sentence.

The jail provides medical care, counseling or mental health care, laundry and meal services. They also care for the other needs of residents, with both recreation and a work release program.

In work release inmates are permitted to leave the campus between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm to maintain their employment with their current employer. They are only permitted to go to specific locations and the employer is responsible for many parts of the program including transportation as they will need to be signed out and back in each day.

Hygiene items may be purchased through the commissary with money from their account, and their friends or family who are not incarcerated can deposit money through the lobby or online.

During the first week of incarceration, they may also have the following clothing items dropped off: 3 white t-shirts, 3 pairs white socks, 3 pairs white underwear, 3 sports bras, wireless. Each item should be labelled in permanent ink.

Phones within dayrooms allow for inmates to make outgoing calls only, and they will only be on during the day.

Visits occur on Sunday and Saturday with times that vary depending on housing assignment, and allows for remote visits to be scheduled as well. General population has one half hour visit during their visitation time.

Prior to your visit:

  • All Visitors should plan ahead so that they can sign in 15 minutes prior to the visit.  
  • No children under age 16 is allowed to visit inmates.  
  • You MUST be on the inmate’s visitation list (changed on the 1st day of the month) and have a valid picture ID with your date of birth on it in order to visit.  
  • If the visitor does not have an ID, then they cannot visit. No exceptions.

Please note these important rules - ZERO tolerance:

  • When in the visiting area, all inmate family and friends must stay in the station of the inmate they are visiting.  
  • Visitors are not allowed to go to any another station. 
  • If this happens you will be asked to leave and not be able to visit your family or friend again while they are incarcerated in the Autauga Metro Jail. Ever.  
  • Cell Phones and Cameras are not allowed in the jail. Ever.  
  • If you are found to have one you will be banned from the Jail from that moment on and will not be allowed to visit any inmate in the Autauga Metro Jail. Ever.

The Autauga Metro Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
