The Georgetown County Detention Center is a 212 bed jail in the city of Georgetown, Georgetown County, South Carolina. Offenders arrested for misdemeanors and felonies in this county are brought here for booking and processing, and if their crime requires it, are incarcerated until they either get bail or are released from custody on their own recognizance.

It is the booking facility for the entire county, as well as the holding facility where both state and federal detainees are held. On June 7, 2024, George town County officials broke ground on a new 265-bed detention center, that could house up to 500 inmates if needed. The $65 million, 85,800 square foot facility contains the following:

Inmates are offenders arrested in Georgetown County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.
This large facility is capable of housing inmates for both a short time and longer periods and uses one central command center to monitor the multiple security cameras and control access to doors and areas throughout the facility. Inmate worker programs provide assistance to the maintenance of community lands, roads, and parks, while also providing inmates the opportunity to gain new skills and stay active throughout incarceration.
While located within this center all inmates' immediate needs are cared for, including mental health support, medical care, dental repairs, all meals and nutritional requirements, clothing needs, and supervising during work shifts or outdoor time. In support of mental health and the betterment of the lives of the inmates, mail, phone calls, and visits from friends and family who are not incarcerated are encouraged.
Visits can be booked once a person is included on their approved visitors list, and they must not have been incarcerated within the last 90 days before visiting an inmate. Visits will occur every day, with periods of closure around meals only. Approved visitors will be provided with their assigned visiting time, for the safety of the facility visiting hours are not provided to the public, with updates online.
Phones within the common areas of the housing units allow inmates to make outgoing calls to their friends or family only, and the online account provides funding for calls during their recreational time.
After an arrest, individuals are taken to Georgetown County Detention Center where they go through booking. This process includes identifying the person, reviewing charges, and determining whether they will be released on their own, eligible for bail, or detained until their court date.
It’s crucial to remain silent after being arrested. Anything said may be used in court, so it’s better to refrain from speaking until consulting with an attorney.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Georgetown County Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
