About the Austintown Township Jail
The local Austintown Township Jail is located in the town it’s named after and has been located in Austintown since its original build. It houses anyone who is arrested within the town and the surrounding county and is where they are processed and booked. Fingerprints, images, and arrest information are all recorded. This is the first point of detention after an arrest, and they will remain there until their arraignment, or their trial is completed. As it is the main holding center it has to accommodate people who are accused of all types of crimes, either misdemeanors or for felonies, until they are sentenced and in many cases the sentence is served in the same facility. Officers are present around the clock and meals, laundry, and medical care are all provided within the jail. Both male and female inmates are housed here, and they are separated both in the cells and in the cell blocks, eating meals separately. Phone calls are outgoing only, and monitored, but mail can be received. Visitation is encouraged and there are visiting hours most days, with a limit on how long the visits can be for each week. Two visits of 45 minutes are permitted during the hours between 8:15am and 4pm from Tuesday through Sunday. As the town grew the police department and the number of officers on staff have continued to grow with it, leading to the resulting facility and enough officers to staff it while still protecting the surrounding community.
