While other areas of the campus have large windows, the jail portion is noticeable for its lack of windows and smaller windows, and there is plenty of parking for staff and visitors with an overflow lot available as well.
With up to 120 offenders, both felony and misdemeanor, who are arrested in Mille Lacs County, the Mille Lacs County Jail has two distinct and separate housing units for offenders both as they wait for their trial and during their sentence. To determine if someone is being detained, there are two ways to access the roster, either call the location directly at 320-983-8244 or check the online inmate listing.
Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.
An intake area has space for 5 additional offenders as they are being booked as well as a recreational room, two library spaces or program rooms, a medical unit to meet all medical needs, laundry facilities, a master control center to monitor the cameras and doors throughout, and a kitchen with a full staff for all meals. Each housing unit has stations for video visits, telephones, televisions, dayroom space, a microwave, gaming tables, and natural lighting. Tablets are provided to each of the offenders during the intake process and this will allow phone calls, video calls, library content, educational programming, and entertainment.
To ensure that you are able to communicate through the use of the tablets, create an account online and you will be able to add money to the account and arrange contact with the inmate that you are intending to contact, provided you are on the approved list and have not been recently incarcerated.
Phones are available only during dayroom hours, and they are limited to 20 minute calls at any time, and an account can be created online.
All emessages are delivered the same day through the tablets, and arrive faster than traditional mail, while both will be checked for contraband before their delivery.
