About the Prince William - Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center
The Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center houses adult inmates who are arrested or sentenced to incarceration throughout the region. It serves the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park as well as the towns of Occoquan, Quantico, Triangle, Dumfries, and Haymarket. Tours are available for adult students, candidates for law enforcement positions, and other organizations that involve working with the justice system. These tours allow them to see the layout of the facility as well as how it is operated and maintained. After an arrest is made and they arrive at the facility there will be a booking process that includes a mug shot and fingerprinting, as well as gathering general information and contacts. After the process has been completed, detainees are kept in the holding area, they will see a magistrate to learn what bail is or if they will get bail, and they are then allowed to contact friends or family to assist in making bail. During the first few days in jail there will be a medical assessment and mental health assessment, a full criminal history will be taken, and then a housing assignment will be provided. The housing is based upon the current charges and past behavior during incarceration, health needs, and a phone and visiting list will be created for approval. Those who are sentenced to the Work Release program will be provided with assignments that permit them to leave for the day to attend their job and then return each evening to serve their sentence. While inmates remain in the facility they are able to request money be added to an account in their name so they can access commissary purchases for their clothing, hygiene needs, snacks, and other items. To do this there is a kiosk within the lobby of the jail that allows those who are visiting or who are supporting the inmate to add money to the account, or they can do so from home at connectnetwork.com. While providing financial support is encouraged, the commissary is not the only way to do so. An account can also be created at inmatetelephone.com and this will allow inmates to make phone calls during the daytime hours between 9am and 11pm, which supports their contact and relationships with people outside of the facility. To visit an inmate there are a few steps to take and rules to learn. Inmates will receive one visit each week, through video call, and those who are in maximum security will receive 20 minutes, medium or minimum security receive 30 minutes, and workers and work release will get 60 minutes. Visits can be scheduled at princewilliamva.gtlvisitme.com and only those who are scheduled in advance will be completed. In some cases, there may be a second visit permitted, but only after creating an account and logging in will the available times be accessible.

What happens during booking in Prince William County?

After being arrested and taken into custody, and after being read their Miranda Rights, an offender will next be transported to the local police or department or the Sheriff’s Department in Prince William County for booking.

Booking is very involved and requires multiple steps in the process, however, keep in mind that most attorneys will advise that an offender remain silent and not offer any additional information about the crime they have been arrested for because anything they do say may be recorded and may very well be used against them in court.

What is the booking process like at the Prince William - Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center?

Booking includes having their photo (mugshot) and fingerprints taken, as well as being asked a lot of questions about their personal history and state of mind. If it’s a serious felony, their DNA may also be taken. They will also be checked for warrants in Prince William County and other Virginia and USA jurisdictions.

If the offender was arrested for a DUI offense, and has refused a breathalyzer test, they may also be forced to have blood drawn by a doctor or nurse.

It is also very likely that the offender will undergo a humiliating full body search while in the nude. This includes bending over, spreading their cheeks in the direction of an officer, and coughing. They will also be walked through a metal detector or x-ray machine, like those used at an airport.

What kind of questions are asked during booking?

The arresting jurisdiction will ask about gang affiliations, tattoos, medical conditions, prescribed medication they are taking, recreational drugs they are on or addicted to, allergies, if they are suicidal, and other relevant information that will help with determining their cell assignment and special needs.

What happens to an offender’s personal property during booking?

During the arrest and booking process an offender will also have all their personal property confiscated and held for either their release from jail, or with the offender’s approval, released to a friend or family member.

Personal property includes the clothing they are wearing, money, wallets, purses, cell phones, jewelry, body rings, earrings, watches, and even glasses if they are deemed a security risk. If they are allowed to keep their shoes or sneakers, the laces are removed.

What happens after booking?

At this point the offender will be allowed to make a free phone call to a person of their choice to notify them of their arrest, and/or arrange a bond or bail for their release.

If the offender is being detained and housed while awaiting arraignment, the Prince William - Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center will provide a jail garment and slip-on shoes, a blanket, sheets, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a towel.

Often, before they are dressed in the jail outfit and brought to their housing location, they will be forced to take a shower and undergo a disinfectant treatment for body and hair lice, scabies or other pests that may be residing on their person.

Prince William - Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center PERSONAL VISITS WITH INMATES

Inmates are allowed one (1) non-contact visit per week.
These visits will be done through video visitation only.

The length of visits is as follows:

Maximum custody – 20 minutes
Medium/Minimum custody – 30 minutes
Inside/outside workers – 60 minutes

  • Each inmate establishes a list of up to six visitors depending on privilege level, which can only be changed every 4 months.
  • This list must be established before a visitor is able to conduct visitation.

  • On the website during registration the visitor will need to select which inmate(s) they wish to visit.
  • Detention Center staff will approve/deny requests based upon the list that is submitted by the inmate.
  • Once approved the visitor will be able to schedule visits.
  • When space is available, a second non-contact visit for the week may be purchased and scheduled for a nominal fee.
  • On the scheduled visitation day all visitors will need to be here at least 15 minutes prior to the start time of the visit to complete the check-in process. At this time a valid photo identification is required.
  • A parent or legal guardian must accompany children under the age of 18. Juveniles in high school are asked to bring school ID with them. Emancipated juveniles must show proof of emancipation. Those under the age of 18 who are married to an inmate are not required to be accompanied by an adult, but proof of marriage must be shown.
