Both felony and misdemeanor charges will see someone detained here, and they will be housed in one of the several two story housing units that each surround a common area with phones, tables for meals and games, and visitation spaces.
While being responsible for the care and control of all inmates both while they are waiting for their trial and as they are serving their sentence, the sheriff office also manages transportation, investigations, court bailiffs, drug education, traffic enforcement and much more.
For incarcerated individuals they ensure that the Pierce County Jail is operating in a safe an efficient manner, providing for all of the needs of inmates including clothing and laundry, meals, recreation, security, access to social opportunities and contact with their friends and family who are not incarcerated, educational opportunities, exercise, and many other programs. The jail was built in 2017 with an eye towards expanding the number of beds to 120 at a later date.

Each inmate will be provided with an account that holds their money for commissary purchase and other necessities, and this account can be added to by their support system who are not currently incarcerated at the kiosk that is located in the lobby of the jail or online, and this will also permit for scheduling of visits.
Phones are available for 20 minutes at a time and will be accessible during the day only, with funds being accessed through their commissary account to pay for their calls, and electronic messages may be accessed in the same way.
To visit an inmate there must be internet access, whether at home or at the visiting kiosk at the jail, and an account with which all personal information will be provided including a picture, and the visitor must be approved before booking a visit.
Offsite visits are every day 9am-11am, 12pm-5pm, and 5:30pm-8pm, with onsite visits being free and 15 minutes long occurring Monday and Thursday 5:30pm-8pm and Saturday and Sunday 1pm-4pm.
