⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessLocated within the sprawling red brick building that covers an entire block and is surrounded by fencing that is the Oneida County Law Enforcement Center, the 200-bed Oneida County Jail is the only jail for the county and thus houses both misdemeanor and felony offenders for the duration of their pretrial and sentenced periods.
For each inmate the lowest security measures will be taken as based upon their assessment upon booking which includes past charges, past history of incarceration, current charges, and any medical or mental health needs that are present.
All inmates have the opportunity to access programming that will provide improved life skills, social skills, employable skills, and treatments that will improve the rates of recidivism and rehabilitation.
Some inmates will qualify for the work release program, allowing them to leave the grounds to attend their current job and return at the end of each shift to continue their sentence. By maintaining their employment that are able to continue supporting their families and will have the same jobs after their release, which increases their chances of success.
Mail can be sent directly to the Oneida County Jail and will be distributed directly after being checked for any contraband each weekday, and return mail is sent out each weekday with the post office.
In addition, an online portal permits family and friends to supply money to an inmate, so they are able to make commissary purchases and pay for phone calls.
All visits are done via video and it may take up to 48 hours for a new visitor registration to be accepted after completion. Once a new visitor has been approved, they are able to access scheduling and will be able to visit at the kiosk in the lobby for free up to 20 minutes once a week or at home for a small fee. Kiosks are open every day of the week 8am to 9pm. This program also allows for emails, text messages, and pictures.
