About the Meherrin River Regional Jail

Meherrin River Regional Jail is located in the city of Alberta, Virginia, and it serves the surrounding counties of Brunswick, Dinwiddie, and Mecklenburg.

The capacity of the facility is 697 with a satellite facility located in Boydton that can house an additional 80 inmates when needed. There have been several changes at the facility in the last few years, including closing the lobby to the public and changing the hours to 8:00am to 4:30pm, altering the way that incoming mail is processed, rejecting all publications that are sent from the publisher to an inmate, and no longer accepting money orders in the mail.

To add funds to the account of an inmate there is an ATM in the waiting area, or you can access it online, deliver a money order to the front lobby in person, or add to a phone account.

Phones will be accessible to inmates in the housing units and are available from 9:00am until 10:15pm each day.

Visits are permitted on the weekends, and are completed through the use of tablets which are available in each housing unit. This change has extended the visiting hours available due to the increased access, so visits can be from 7:00am to 10:40am with a break for meals, then 12:10pm-4:10pm, and again from 7:00pm to 10:40pm. All visits must be scheduled in advance at gtlconnect.com, and all rules must be followed or the visit will be cancelled.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Meherrin River Regional Jail?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Meherrin River Regional Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Meherrin River Regional Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
