Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center Information

Accepting youth who are 10 years old or older, and 17 years old or younger, that are taken to the facility by law enforcement to await a detention hearing or who have been assigned to the facility for a specific term of detention or program. Some youth will remain in the facility after turning 18 if they are charged and determined to require detention before that birthday. It has a total of 29 single occupancy rooms, so each youth has their own private sleeping area and space. Admissions are accepted any time of the day or night, and the intake process is begun. Many programs are used to address any behavioral concerns, substance abuse, educational needs, and other concerns that are discovered during the intake assessment. Along with ongoing education in the onsite classrooms, both outdoor and indoor recreational activities are provided and there are opportunities to improve social and life skills. Religious services are provided for those who wish to engage with them, and parents are encouraged to be involved in the programs wherever possible. Mail: Any mail must be delivered through the postal service to the address that is provided to those who are approved for contact after intake. Phone: Outgoing phone calls are permitted on assigned days with housing units each having a day to make their calls as following: A – Wednesday, B – Sunday, C – Monday, D- Friday. Visitation: Visiting hours are from 6:15pm to 7:15pm and only parents and guardians are permitted. Visits are each 30 minutes long, and all visitors must have ID with them. The day that the visits occur vary by housing unit as follows A – Saturday, B – Wednesday, C – Friday, D - Monday

Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center Resident Visitation

  • Only parents, guardians, and approved visitors will be allowed to visit.
  • Visitation is to be conducted between the hours of 6:15pm-7:45pm according to the unit assignment of the resident listed below.
  • Visitation is limited to two visitors in the visitation area at any given time.
  • Residents will be allowed thirty (30) minutes total visitation time.
  • In the event that more than two approved visitors arrive for visitation, the total visitation time may be divided among the visitors.
  • Those individuals listed as approved visitors must provide picture ID prior to entry.
  • Visitation must remain orderly at all times.
  • Visitors will not be allowed to enter visitation with bags, purses, cell phones, or other accessories.
  • Visitors should be aware that smoking, eating, and delivery of contraband during visitation are strictly prohibited.
  • Failure to adhere to the rules concerning visitation will result in the immediate termination of the visit and administrative review regarding future visitation restrictions (e.g., non-contact visitation).
  • If a child makes a phone call at night during visitation hours, he/she will not be allowed to have a visitor since this is considered a visit.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center standards will be disposed of.
