Trumbull County Jail was originally a temporary jail that was destroyed in a fire, leading to the new jail being built on its current location in 1815. That building was replaced in 1966 and then again in 1997 when the current full service facility was built. It is a seven story building and includes a separate, but attached, two story building that functions as a minimum security jail. Each of these house inmates based upon their classification that takes into consideration the seriousness of their crimes, a history of violence, and any other factors that are known to the staff.

Mail has been updated to computer based programs. Mail that is sent for inmates goes through a service in Maryland, which is why the address may appear incorrect. It is scanned and delivered digitally for their viewing. Each piece of mail is checked before delivery to determine if it is appropriate or if it breaks the rules of the jail.

Visits are conducted at the facility. Scroll down or go to our Inmate Visitation page for a full schedule of when you can visit with your inmate, as each inmate has a dedicated time they can have their weekly visit, and it's based on their housing assignment..

An online app is available that allows inmates and friends or family to exchange messages and photos like emails or texts from anywhere, and it is accessible by inmates on a tablet. Instructions on this can be found on our Inmate Text & Email page.
