About the Lawrence County Jail

Located in Ironton, Lawrence County, the Lawrence County Jail provides incarceration services for both male and female offenders throughout the county.

Inmates of Lawrence County are held here on either misdemeanor or felony charges and either waiting for their trial or serving a very short sentence, under a year, with those who are serving any longer sent to another facility.

As a small 50-bed holding location attached to the Sheriff’s Office and operated by them, the Lawrence County Jail has basic services and programs but limited access to some treatments and other options.

Lawrence County has received funding to build a new 200 bed jail once they settle on a location.  On any given day, even the the Sheriff only has a 50 bed jail, they have as many as 100 offenders in custody, utilizing neighboring county jails in Butler, VanWert, Morrow and Monroe counties.

The bland concrete structure houses all of the new offenders directly after arrest for processing, and they are then assigned to a housing unit that will best fit their demographic and security level, and provide the safest experience for inmates and staff.

Family may drop off prescription medications in their original packaging to be distributed as required, a paperback book or magazine, 3 white t-shirts, 3 pairs white underwear and 2 white bras, 3 pairs of white socks, and 2 pairs of thermal underwear either in cream or white, along with up to 3 photographs, which is the full list of items an inmate may have during incarceration.

For questions in regard to personal property, inmate status, or visiting the facility can be contacted by calling 740-534-5819 and there is also an online database of all inmates within the building.

During incarceration there will be access to phones both directly after arrest to contact family or an attorney, and daily throughout their stay regardless of how long they are detained, with no incoming calls accepted.
