When someone is first arrested they will be brought to the jail, then arraigned the following business day by video. If you want to be present, you need to go to Municipal Court, 70 N. Union St., Delaware, 2nd floor. The arraignement hours are 9:30 a.m. Monday, and 10:00 a.m. Tuesday thru Friday. The acytual times may vary based on what is gpoing on in court that day.
If you wish to pay bond, and don't want to use a Bail Bond Agency in Delaware County, this is also done at the Municipal Court building, 70 N. Union St.
In order to help inmates to reintegrate into society there is both a program with that focus as well as visitation and other communication with their family and friends who are able to visit and accept phone calls. Visits are available at the jail using their video visitation service on Tuesday and Thursday evening, and both day and evening visits on the weekends. A complete schedule is located in the Visitation section below. Mail can be sent to inmates, though it will be checked for contraband before being given to the addressee. Some inmates are offered jobs working in the office or administration jobs for the jail. This program offers an opportunity to have a task and a purpose each day, as well as encouraging involvement in their community and working together, all while reducing some of the cost of staff to complete the jobs. These tasks include laundry, clothing, cooking, and more. Work Release Programs are also run by the same staff, however it is located down the street from the jail itself. This program assists inmates to find local work and to help them reintegrate into society upon their release. Both of these programs are intended to provide inmates hope for a strong reintegration and help make their release easier for both them and their families.
After being arrested, the offender is brought to the Delaware County Jail for booking, which is the detailed process of identifying, classifying, deciding on charges, and whether the person will either be released on their own recognizance, allowed to be released on bail, or moved into the jail until their court date.
The first thing every newly arrested person must do is close their mouth. Everything an offender says may be used against them, so the best thing to do is remain silent when questioned about the arrest and what led to it.

• Any inmate or visitor whose behavior is disruptive during a visit may have his/her visiting privileges suspended/terminated.
• All visits are subject to monitoring and recording.
• All visits must be scheduled 6 hours prior to the appointment or up to 13 days in advance.
• You must check-in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit.
• Valid picture identification (e.g., driver's license, State I.D., or Military I.D. with picture) is required of all visitors, with the exception of children under the age of 17.
• Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an authorized adult visitor.
• Visitors who 'arrive' after the scheduled start time may not be allowed to visit.
• Clothing must cover all private/sensitive body areas.
• The visitation schedule may be canceled or altered on holidays or for safety/security reasons.
• Delaware County Jail can disconnect, deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time.
• Internet connectivity issues during offsite visits will NOT be refunded.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
• After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated automatically.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Delaware County Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Delaware County Jail standards will be disposed of.
