With a top capacity of 40 inmates, it was reopened in 2021 to house female inmates who are facing charges that are less severe than those who remained in the main jail, and they were provided with all of the services and care that was available in the building.
It currently holds up to 40 inmates who are minimum security only, and they may be engaged in work release or other programs that allow fewer restrictions and increased freedom of movement during the day.
The new facility is in construction which will add extra beds and expand the original jail significantly, removing the need for this building completely. The new jail is expected to be finished in 2024. To determine if someone is located in the annex the jail may be contacted directly at 828-452-6670 or via the online lookup. The main facility, which holds approximately 110 inmates, is at full capacity.
