About the Chippewa County Correctional Facility

In Chippewa County the local correctional facility is operated by the Sheriff, and the 126-bed Chippewa County Correctional Facility is the holding facility for the entire county. It provides safe and secure incarceration of both male and female inmates who are either waiting for their trial or who have completed their court dates and are serving a sentence.

Offenders will be processed through the booking office, and they will be scheduled for their first court appearance and arraignment, for any questions on this process or to determine someone’s bail the booking office may be contacted at 906-635-7620.

General programs are provided, alongside meals, laundry, and recreational activities, including GED, drug and alcohol counseling, bible study, Native American Culture Studies, worker programs, work pass program, electronic monitoring, and community service.

There are requirements for the work programs and the electronic monitoring that must be met before an offender may apply for them. Home monitoring requirements include passing a drug test, having a place to stay in order to remain there for the extent of the sentence, having no active warrants, and constant access to a phone. This program allows inmates to serve their sentence at home, but they are tracked through GPS and have limited locations they may be at.

For work release the offender must have a job, be medically cleared, have $150 in their commissary account, provide their work schedule for approval, and there must be no outstanding warrants.

All inmates will have access to a commissary account that can be added to by friends and family.

Three meals are provided each day, laundry is provided along with clothing for their incarceration, and recreational activities are available during free time.

While incoming calls are not accepted for inmates, they are able to access phones through an online account, or by making collect calls.
