⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessLocated within the Summit County Justice Center, the 93-bed Summit County Detention Facility houses all local offenders who are arrested on either felony or misdemeanor charges until they have their trial or serve their sentence. The majority of inmates will be released on bail or will be able to reach a disposition in their case, with only 1/3 of the population of the jail serving a sentence.
Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.
Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.
The Summit County Detention Facility also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills.

It has a capacity of 93 with a large parking lot surrounded by beautiful scenery and lush forest. The focus of the jail is to house inmates only until they are able to be released, with the most common functions being to book in offenders and release them as soon as possible, maintain safety during any length of incarceration, and all inmates are provided with three meals every day.
Mental health holds, detoxes for those who arrive drunk, extraditions, transportation to and from court, and investigations within the building all fall under the responsibility of the Summit County Detention Facility staff.
Medical and dental care are both provided to inmates as needed, a mental health team is onsite to respond to any concerns and provide counseling, prescription medication is verified and provided by the medical staff who will provide a new prescription as outside medications are not permitted.
Work release inmates are able to have additional clothing from home for their job, and they will be able to attend their regular work shifts and return to incarceration after each shift.

Phones are available for outgoing, collect calls only, or they may use phone time that is purchased through the commissary or via family or friends adding money to the phone account.
The Summit County Detention Facility also has it's own online portal for depositing money for an inmate.
One free onsite visit is provided each week, during the approved visiting hours for up to 20 minutes. These will be accessed through the kiosk that is in the jail lobby during approved visiting hours. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Summit County Detention Facility allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Summit County Detention Facility standards will be disposed of.
